Year 3 & Year 4

Welcome to Year 3 and Year 4.

Our teaching team is Mrs Taylor (Scarlet), Miss Crawford (Jade) and Ms Wynn (Gold)

How is Year 3/4 different to other year groups?

This is a new phase of school. Throughout Year 3 and Year 4, the aim is to support the children to become more confident within themselves and more independent.

  • Maths and English introduce children to some brand-new concepts. They will continue to develop some learning from previous year groups, but much of the content will go on to be further developed over the next four years.
  • Children are generally more secure with their reading. Most children therefore start using Accelerated Reader, which challenges the children to read books within particular levels and complete a short quiz afterwards.
  • Any children who are not secure with their reading will continue to have intensive support to improve their decoding skills.
  • Year 4 children complete a statutory Multiplication Tables Check. This tests children’s knowledge of multiplication and division facts up to 12x12 with 25 random questions. Results are shared with parents.
  • Children begin learning a new language, French, once they start Year 3. They will study French throughout the rest of their time at Fell Dyke.
  • The social and emotional development of children receives very close attention. Clear communication with school and realistic expectations from parents/carers are vital within this period.
