Friday 6 June 2025 Year 3 - June 25 - Science Week Jade Class have loved celebrating science week! They started the week off with an electricity workshop where they made circuits using buzzers and lightbulbs!

Friday 6 June 2025 Bronze class Science week We have had a great week! Science week has been about 'Adapt and Change'. On Monday we had a special visitor and we joined in with lots of different experiments. We learned about gravity, the fire triangle, explosions and lots of other fun stuff. Today we have been doing our own experiment - the Skittle Experiment. We made a prediction, wrote what we needed for the experiment and then carried it out. Can you see what we did?

Friday 6 June 2025 Dissolving Dilemma As part of Science Week, Purple class took part in an investigation into dissolving sugar. The investigation involved adding different amounts of sugar and then timing the rate at which it dissolved in water. They worked very well together and communicated respectfully. At the end of the experiment, they also thought about how they could keep more variables the same, to get more reliable results.

Thursday 5 June 2025 Amazing Adaptations During Science week Turquoise class have learnt about 'changing and adapting'. Holding a science week is a brilliant way for us to get more science into the busy primary curriculum. We have looked at various animals and the adaptations they need to survive in their habitats. We then used Minecraft to search for axolotls and created their perfect habitat thinking about the adaptations they needed to be made. Finally, we took part in an electricity workshop where we looked at changes to circuits and how this can impact the output. Take a look at some of our pictures.

Wednesday 4 June 2025 Saltwell Park Fun Run Year 6 had a lovely time at Saltwell Park taking part in the annual fun run. The children showed real resilience and really impressed all of the teachers. The children took on a 2km run around the park, which had some really steep hills. Well done! Once again, the children of Fell Dyke demonstrated excellent behaviour and were a real credit to themselves and the school.

Tuesday 3 June 2025 Silly Science Reception were invited to a silly science workshop with KS1 to celebrate the official Science week. This year we are learning all about adapting and changing.

Tuesday 3 June 2025 Reception Bikeabilty The children in Reception were visited by Mark from the bike ability team. He came to teach us safety when riding a bike and then how to ride safely and quickly. The children used the balance bikes on the yard to learn and then practise this new skill.

Tuesday 3 June 2025 Run run as fast as you can! We have been reading a range of traditional tales in Reception. One of our favourite stories has been 'The Gingerbread Man'. After reading several times we re-told the story using talk for writing. We then spent two weeks carrying out a range of activities including building a bridge for the gingerbread man, creating new characters and a boat using junk materials and writing our own happy endings. At the end of the half term and our topic we decided to make our own ginger person. First the children measured out and mixed the ingredients we would need. Then we used our fingers to get the dough to stick together as it was very crumbly. After rolling out the dough we cut out the shapes and an adult put them into the oven. Once they were cooled we decorated them using iced pens. We sneakily ate our gingerbread men just like the fox in the story.

Tuesday 20 May 2025 Purple Class Linking Project Purple class took part in an amazing opportunity as part of The Linking Network. We met up with Kenton Barr Primary school to take part in team building games and art projects. Throughout the day, the children bonded over mutual interests and worked very well together. It was amazing to see the children working collaboratively and getting on so well.

Thursday 15 May 2025 Summer Fun! Nursery having been making the most of the warm weather and exploring some different activities outside. The children loved playing in our outdoor water trays and getting messy in our new sand pit! Summer fun wouldn't be complete without lots of bubble popping!!!

Thursday 15 May 2025 Supertato to the Rescue! As part of our theme 'Ready...Steady...Grow!' the children in Nursery have been learning about different fruits and vegetables. They have especially enjoyed sharing the story of 'Supertato' and completing lots of activities linked to the book.

Tuesday 13 May 2025 Identifying structures and making swings in Bronze class Our DT this half term in Bronze class is 'Structures'. We looked at different structures around our school grounds, the materials they were made from and the different shapes we could see. The, in the classroom, we had a go at making our own swing structures using straws and tape. It was quite tricky and we needed lots of perseverance and determination, but we did very well!

Tuesday 13 May 2025 2D and 3D Shapes in Bronze class Bronze class have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We have been sorting 2D shapes using different criteria and identifying polygons. We have talked about the number of vertices and sides on 2D shapes. We then used our 3D shapes to draw around and see what 2D shapes the faces were. We have also made some 3D shapes using nets and different equipment, identifying the vertices, edges and faces in each.

Friday 2 May 2025 Stop, Look, Listen and Think! Nursery have been learning how to stay safe when crossing the road. The children had a special visit from Sara who reminded us to stop, look, listen and think each time we approach a road. They learnt how a lollypop person can help us stay safe and how to stand back if we hear any sirens. The children all remembered how important it is to hold a grown-ups hand and walk on the path!

Wednesday 30 April 2025 Super Science Turquoise class have been working hard in science. They enjoyed carrying out a demonstration where they created a mixture and then videoed the process of separating the mixture. The children used a range of steps including sieving, filtering, magnetisation and using forceps to remove items.

Tuesday 29 April 2025 Gold Class Investigate Forces Gold Class have been learning about different forces. They carried out an investigation to find out which materials were magnetic. They were surprised to discover that not all metals are magnetic which lead to some interesting discussions and fact finding.

Tuesday 29 April 2025 Gold Class Are Times Tables Champions! Gold Class took part in the first ever ‘Battle of the Classes’ on Times Tables Rock Stars. They had to answer as many times tables questions as they could in 60 minutes. The answered an amazing 25, 810 questions correctly! They received the TTRs trophy which is displayed proudly in their classroom.

Tuesday 29 April 2025 Scrumptious Scones As part of Orange Class's DT unit - food, the children tasted a selection of different fruit scones and toasted tea cakes. We did this to allow us to know the different dried fruits we could put into our scones and how they actually taste. We gave everything we tasted a score out of 5. What a delicious afternoon.

Tuesday 22 April 2025 Reception's Easter Stay and Play The Reception children had such a wonderful time with their grown-ups at our Easter Stay and Play. The children were confident in showing their adults all of the different skills and knowledge they have been developing this term, from cutting and creating with chalk to reading hidden words and composing with number up to 10! Safe to say, the adults were very impressed.

Wednesday 9 April 2025 Bronze class visit to Shipley Art Gallery On Tuesday, Bronze class visited our local gallery, Shipley Art Gallery, to take part in a workshop using clay. We investigated different kinds of pottery and used our Science knowledge to help us describe the properties of the material. We then looked around the gallery for inspiration for our own pieces of work, drawing pictures of what we liked. Then we created our own bowls using clay and added patterns based on what had inspired us. It was fantastic!

Monday 7 April 2025 Easter Stay and Play! Nursery had a wonderful with their special grown-ups today at our Easter Stay and Play. They enjoyed completing Easter crafts and playing in the environment with their parents and carers. We hope you all had a wonderful time and enjoy the Easter break!

Friday 4 April 2025 Key Stage 1 Number Day For number day the children in KS1 took part in a number hunt around school. They found each number block and answered different questions depending on their class.

Friday 4 April 2025 Repeating Patterns During Maths group times, the children in Nursery have been learning all about repeating patterns. They have spotted patterns in their environment and copied patterns using different resources. The children then replicated patterns in their own play! Super work Nursery!

Monday 31 March 2025 Year 3 Jade Class- March 2025- PE Jade Class have loved playing rounders in PE. They improved their fielding and batting skills throughout the unit and were able to explain the rules of rounders.

Thursday 27 March 2025 Fell Dyke Shine at the Glasshouse. Miss Brown, Mrs Wilson and My Strassheim are so proud of our Tuesday dance club. The children have worked so hard over the Spring Term learning a routine centered around respecting themselves. The children showed determination and resilience throughout and shone like stars on the stage. The children's team spirt and encouragement was unmatched. So much so that it was commented on by staff at The Glasshouse. We are always so proud of our children at Fell Dyke but the team spirt and love for all, that we saw, was incredible.

Thursday 27 March 2025 Fantastic Fencing Purple Class have had an amazing opportunity to take part in fencing lessons this half term with Gateshead SSP. All of the children have have been taught how to fence using the correct vocabulary and actions. They have practiced their salute for respect, the lunge and parry so far this half term. The children have all demonstrated excellent respect during our matches, which has been commented on by the coaches.

Thursday 27 March 2025 Singing into Spring! Nursery had a wonderful visit from our friends at Tiny Tweeties. They sang songs linked to minibeasts and springtime. The children loved singing, dancing and playing the instruments all whilst learning about life cycles, practising their counting skills and developing new vocabulary.

Wednesday 26 March 2025 Where Going on a Number Hunt! To celebrate Number Day, the children in Nursery took part in a number hunt around school. They searched for pictures of all the Cbeebies Numberblocks and completed a challenge left at each place they found one! After finding all ten Numberblock friends the hunt was completed! Well done Nursery!

Wednesday 26 March 2025 Animal encounters This half term the children in Reception have experienced a very special animal encounter. We had 10 eggs delivered which we cared for in the incubator until they were ready to hatch. Throughout last week we hatched all 10 eggs and are lucky enough to be caring for 5 girls and 5 boys. The children have taken great care of the chicks making sure they are well fed, watered, warm and have had lots of space to run around. The children had a large paddling pool to observe the chicks from a far. As the chicks got a little bigger and we were sure we knew how to handle them we managed to have a little cuddle before they go off to their new homes outside. We discussed with the children the lifecycle of a hen and how normally the hen would sit on the eggs. They have loved learning all about this fascinating life cycle and understand how a hen hatches her chicks.

Saturday 22 March 2025 Y3/4 - March 2025 - Scarlet Red Nose Day! Well done to all the children in Scarlet Class for their efforts to support Comic Relief charity. The children did a great job of wearing red for Red Nose Day and their money and cake donations have gone to a great cause.

Friday 21 March 2025 Chick, Chick, Chickens! Nursery made a trip to the big school today to see some special visitors....ten newly hatched chicks! The children used their gentle hands to stroke and hold the chicks. They noticed they felt soft and commented on the sounds they made. They are looking forward to another visit to observe how the chicks will grow and change.

Friday 21 March 2025 Times Tables Workshops Thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended the times tables workshops this week. It was great to see so many parents and the workshops were a huge success!

Thursday 20 March 2025 Save the Children Les, a fundraiser for Save the Children, came to speak to the children in KS1 about his role and some of the work the charity does to help children in developing countries. Les showed us ‘Plumpy Nut’, a high nutrient peanut paste which is used to treat malnutrition. He showed us how one pack of Plumpy Nut was around the same size, shape and price of a KitKat - yet it could save a child’s life.

Thursday 20 March 2025 Ukulele Lessons This half term we have been having ukulele lesson from Miss Christie. We have been learning some amazing songs and some chords. We have also been learning to play along some traditional songs using the chords C and Am. Hopefully one day you might be able to hear us perform!

Friday 14 March 2025 Lovely Ladybirds! As part of their learning on minibeasts, the children in Nursery read the story of 'The Very Lazy Ladybird'. They enjoyed creating their own Lazy Ladybirds by decorating biscuits. They carefully counted out ingredients for the icing sugar and observed how it changed. They were challenged to use their counting skills further by finding the correct number of eyes and chocolate spots! The children enjoyed eating their biscuits as a reward for all their super maths work!

Wednesday 12 March 2025 Revealing our World Book Day doors... As part of our World Book Day celebrations, each class was tasked with working with their teachers to decorate their classroom door based on a story the children enjoy.

Monday 10 March 2025 Shrove Tuesday in Reception The children celebrated pancake day in Reception by mixing their own batter and making pancakes. We read the story of Mr Wolf's pancakes before deciding to make our own. We followed the recipe, weighed out the ingredients and then Ms Lawrie cooked them for us. We got to choose which topping we wanted on our pancake and the choices were delicious. The choices were... golden syrup, lemon juice or chocolate sauce! I bet you can all guess which topping went down the best. Of course it was the chocolate! After seeing our photos you will definitely be asking the Reception children to make your pancakes in the future.

Saturday 8 March 2025 Purple Class Visit MakerSpace at Gateshead Library Gateshead Library is full of fantastic resources, including lots of advanced tech kit such as 3D printers, laser cutters and heat transfer printing.

Friday 7 March 2025 World book Day Bronze class We had a fantastic World Book Day in Bronze class. We all dressed up in some fantastic costumes and then helped to create pictures for our classroom door that we are making into the 'Enormous Crocodile'. We sorted books into fiction and non-fiction and found out some interesting facts about crocodiles. Did you know that some male saltwater crocodiles can grow to be 7 metres long?!

Thursday 6 March 2025 Nursery Celebrate World Book Day! Nursery looked fantastic in all their character costumes today. The children enjoying spending extra time listening to stories especially those that their friends had brought in to share.

Thursday 6 March 2025 Perfect Pancakes! Nursery had a wonderful time returning to school on Pancake Day! They enjoyed listening to the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' before engaging in activities linked to the text . Of course their favourite task was eating the pancakes! Yum, yum!

Thursday 6 March 2025 Reception's visit from 'The Bug Man' To kick start our new half term learning about mini beasts and life cycles, the children were visited by Guy Tansley also known as 'The Bug Man'. During his visit the children were introduced to a range of 'Megabeasts' some mini and some not so. We learnt about the habitats of the creatures that were brought, what they like to eat and where in the world they live. Some of the animals included... stick insects, tarantulas, snakes, cockroaches, a scorpion, leaf insects and many more.

Wednesday 5 March 2025 Scarlet Class - Passover Seder Scarlet Class have really enjoyed exploring Judaism this half term. We love demonstrating our Fell Dyke value 'Equality' and learning about the similarities and differences between ourselves and people around the world.

Friday 21 February 2025 Tree Planting Purple Class took part in a tree planting activity facilitated by the Royal Forestry Society. They had an amazing time and worked together in small groups to achieve their task. We planted over 40 trees in under an hour, showing an amazing team spirit!

Friday 21 February 2025 DT Making Fruit Salad Bronze class practiced their cutting, chopping and grating skills to make a fruit salad for Ms Savage.

Friday 14 February 2025 Love is in the air... Nursery have had a wonderful week exploring Valentines themed learning opportunities and thinking about special people. All our Nursery children are special to the staff here at Fell Dyke and we are super proud of how they have collaborated with their friends during our activities this week!

Friday 14 February 2025 Purple Class History Purple Class looked at primary sources from Ancient Egypt. First, they thought about what they could see in the source through describing its features. Then, the thought about what it might show about the role of slaves or the Pharaoh in society. Finally, we compared the sources to think about how the lives of these two groups were different.

Friday 14 February 2025 Purple Class Laing Art Gallery Visit This week Purple Class had an amazing opportunity to take part in an art workshop at the Laing Art Gallery. After walking around the gallery for inspiration, they created their own designs using foam and printed them onto card. They also enjoyed looking around Newcastle City center and using the Metro.

Monday 10 February 2025 Turquoise's trip to The Laing. The children in Turquoise Class took a trip to Newcastle to visited the Laing Art Gallery. We used public transport, which was great to get us prepared for secondary school. We took the 56 bus from school to Market Street in Newcastle. Once we arrived we walked to the Laing, where we took part in a Printmaking workshop then had our lunch. We finished with a very wet walk through Newcastle stopping outside the library before walking up to Haymarket Metro. We took the Metro from Haymarket to Gateshead and then took the 56 back to school! What a fantastic day!

Friday 7 February 2025 NSPCC Number Day Thank you to all the parents, staff and children for their amazing effort today to make our first Number Day a huge success! The children looked fabulous ‘dressed up for digits’ and the donations made will help to fund the vital work of the NSPCC.

Friday 7 February 2025 Nursery Number Day! Nursery had lots of fun celebrating NSPCC's 'Dress Up For Digit's Day'. They took part in lots of number related activities, developing their counting skills and recognition of numerals.

Thursday 6 February 2025 Brilliant Books Nursery enjoyed a visit from our local librarian this week. Joanne shared some of her favourite books before leaving a wonderful surprise. A pack of books for all the children to take home and enjoy!

Thursday 6 February 2025 Red Class Library Trip The children in Red Class thoroughly enjoyed their local trip to Wrekenton library. After visiting the school library each week it was a special treat for us to get on our walking shoes and head just around the corner. Once we arrived, Joanne greeted us and showed us around. We listened to some of Joanne's favourite stories before exploring the books ourselves. Each child chose and scanned out a book to bring back to class. Each of the children's choices will be used on the class voting station so everyone's choices can be shared. We are hoping to visit the library again soon to explore more of our favourite stories and books.

Thursday 6 February 2025 Year 1/2 - February - shapes The children in Blue class have started their learning on shape. They have placed shapes over the top of other shapes, created tangram pictures and mirrored pictures with a partner. They have been trying really hard to use their new vocabulary word “rotate” when creating their shape pictures.

Tuesday 4 February 2025 Laing Art Gallery Orange The children in Orange Class visited the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle. For this visit, the children used public transport. We took the 56 bus from school to Market Street in Newcastle. We took part in the Printmaking workshop then had our lunch. We finished with a walk through Newcastle to Monument then up to Haymarket Metro. We took the Metro from Haymarket to Gateshead and then took the 56 back to school! What a fantastic day!

Monday 3 February 2025 Chinese New Year in Reception Lunar New Year celebrations are underway in Reception. This year we are celebrating the year of the snake. The children listened to the folk story and ordered the animals who placed in the race. We then took part in many activities to develop both our skills and our knowledge of Chinese new year traditions. We made "Hong bao" which are lucky money wallets, Chinese lanterns, fire breathing dragons and fans. On Friday we had a special treat and we discussed and used the words salty, crunchy, hard, soft, hot and cold to describe some foods that we ate. These included egg noodles, egg friend rice, crispy seaweed, fortune cookies, prawn crackers and curry sauce.

Thursday 30 January 2025 Rose Class - Local Library Trip Rose class children were lucky enough to go on a trip to our local library in Wrekenton ahead of National Story telling Week on 3rd February 2025. We walked from school to the the library, looking at and talking about our local environment and familiar buildings as we passed them.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 Amazing Animals! This half term the Nursery children have been learning all about different animals. They have explored lots of activities linked to farm and jungle animals. They have been trying hard to recognise, name and describe animals. They are beginning to think about where animals live and how we can take care of those in our environment.

Tuesday 28 January 2025 Luna New Year! Nursery have had a wonderful time learning about the Luna New Year this week! They especially enjoyed a visit from our friend Joy who shared the story of 'The Great Race'.

Friday 24 January 2025 Year 1/2 - January - Year 2 maths We have been finding ways to help us remember greater than, less than and equal to in maths this week.

Friday 24 January 2025 Y1/2 Fruit Tasting The children in Pink and Blue classes enjoyed tasting different seasonal fruits in DT. They tried green apples, red apples, plums, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and pears. They talked about the texture and taste of the fruit, including the skin, deciding whether they were soft, crunchy, sweet or sharp.

Monday 20 January 2025 Computing in Bronze class This half term Year 2 are learning about algorithms in Computing. This week we have been giving commands to the Blue-Bots to move them in a straight line and turn left and right.

Tuesday 14 January 2025 Year 3 - January- Maths Jade Class have enjoyed using counters to represent arrays. They have been writing repeated addition number sentences and multiplication number sentences to match the arrays.
