• Sunday 29 March 2026 Bronze class visit to St Thomas' Church Bronze class learned all about the Easter story on our visit to St Thomas' Church. We were all incredibly respectful and listened well to the stories and asked some very good questions. A big thank you to all the helpers at the church for being so kind and informative.
• Friday 20 March 2026 Nursery Book Start Visit This week the children in Nursery had a special visit from the librarian. She read one of her favourite stories all about a bear and taught us a new nursery rhyme. She kindly brought everyone a Book Start Pack with two wonderful stories and rhymes to share and enjoy at home. We hope you all enjoy reading your books time and time again and maybe visit the library to see what others you can find!
• Friday 20 March 2026 Nursery Red Nose Day! The children in Nursery looked fantastic in red today as they marked Red Nose Day with lots of red themed fun! Check out some of our super red nose designs!
• Tuesday 17 March 2026 Reception learn about the Lunar New Year In Reception, we learn about a range of celebrations from around the world. Recently we have been exploring the Chinese New Year Lunar celebration and the story of The Great Race.
• Tuesday 17 March 2026 Minibeast Mayhem in Reception This half term Reception are learning all about minibeasts and their garden habitat.
• Friday 13 March 2026 Ready...Steady...Grow! The children in Nursery have been learning all about growing this half term. They have been exploring how to care for plants and thinking about plants we eat. They especially enjoyed trying some different fruits and making their own 'super veggies' inspired by the wonderful story 'Supertato!'
• Wednesday 11 March 2026 Year 1/2 - February - Art The children in blue class have been learning all about the artist Paul Klee. They looked at his painting Seneccio and talked about the use of shape and colour. The children then explored warm and cool colours, adding black and white to create shades and tints.
• Wednesday 11 March 2026 Wonderful Writing Scarlet Class have been working really hard on their writing this half term. We have been using the text Stone Age Boy to inspire our ideas. We rewrote the story as an independent piece as if we were a character who time travels back to the Iron Age. We enjoyed reading our stories and sharing them with friends.
• Thursday 5 March 2026 World Book Day in Nursery! Nursery had a fantastic time celebrating 'World Book Day!'
• Thursday 5 March 2026 Orange Class Picasso artwork This half term Orange Class have been exploring the work of Pablo Picasso. We have mixed colours, created a colour palette and looked at his style of cubism
• Wednesday 4 March 2026 Samba Drums This term Purple Class have been learning about samba drums. The lessons have focused on rhythm, teamwork, and musical creativity. Through learning traditional Brazilian percussion patterns, children have developed their confidence and coordination.
• Wednesday 4 March 2026 Beamish Museum Last half-term Purple class visited Beamish Museum as part of our WW2 topic. The children enjoyed their workshop which looked at the lives of evacuees. They experienced what it would feel like during a blackout and reflected on how children would have felt when they had been evacuated.
• Friday 20 February 2026 Nursery Luna New Year! Nursery have had a fantastic week celebrating Chinese New Year! The children had a special visit from Joy who told us the story of 'The Great Race' and brought her lion! They all joined in with a lion dance and ate some Chinese food. The children have completed lots of fun activities linked to the year of the horse. What a lovely end to our half term.
• Thursday 19 February 2026 Reception celebrate Valentine's Day The children in Reception had spent the week learning all about Valentine's Day and the happiness that we spread when we share the things we love.
• Wednesday 11 February 2026 NSPCC Number Day Thank you to all the children, staff and families for another successful Number Day! The children really ‘dressed up for digits' and thanks to your kind donations, we raised a total of £169 for NSPCC.
• Monday 9 February 2026 Nursery's Love Week! This week in preparation for Valentines Day the children have been thinking about those that are special to them. Inspired by the story 'The Hug' we have discussed people who make us happy and thought of nice things we could do for them in return. The children have made lots of cards and pictures for their friends and family and completed other 'love' themed activities.
• Friday 6 February 2026 Nursery Number Day 2026! The children in Nursery have had a busy day focussing on number. They completed a Numberblock hunt around the school and had a fantastic time completing different activities to develop their number skills!
• Friday 6 February 2026 Super Shapes The children in Pink Class have enjoyed learning about shape in maths. They have created their own pictures using 2D shape templates and digital software, describing which shapes they have used. They have started to explore 3D shapes, naming the shapes and investigating the properties by seeing which shapes are best for building towers due to their curved and flat faces.
• Friday 6 February 2026 KS1 Road Safety Pink and Blue Class enjoyed a visit from Sara who came to talk to us about road safety. The children practised the processes: STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK and LOOK RIGHT, LEFT and RIGHT again.
• Thursday 5 February 2026 Marvellous Maths Thank you to all of the parents and carers who have attended maths workshops from across Year 1 to Year 4 this half term. The events were very well attended and we hope you enjoyed the chance to work alongside your child; get a glimpse into our additional maths sessions at Fell Dyke and see how you can further support your child at home. Thank you for your continued support.
• Thursday 5 February 2026 Reception Multi skills Festival The children visited Gateshead stadium with their teachers, parents and lots of different schools this half term. Whilst visiting they took part in many different activities to get their bodies moving and to practise their co-ordination and balance skills. The children represented Fell Dyke following all of the rules and listening carefully to all of the instructions.
• Thursday 5 February 2026 Road Safety in Reception This week the children in Reception were visited by Sara who came to teach us all about the green cross code. The children learnt how to stay safe before, during and after crossing a road. Ask the children the four things to remember... Stop, look, listen and think. After learning all of the rules they then played in role as cars, vans, pedestrians and a lollipop lady safely crossing each time.

• Monday 2 February 2026 Nursery's Awesome Animals! The children in Nursery have loved our Animal theme this half term. They have accessed lots of learning opportunities linked to farm and jungle animals. It's been a 'roarsome' time!
• Monday 26 January 2026 Orange Class Beamish Museum Orange class had a brilliant day at Beamish Museum. We learned about what it was like to be an evacuee.
• Friday 23 January 2026 Year 3 - January 26- Locomotion Museum Jade Class loved their visit to the Locomotion museum. They learned all about George Stephenson, how trains changed over time and even got to go inside an old steam train! Ask them all about it.
• Thursday 15 January 2026 Reception's Multi-skills event Some of the Reception children visited Gateshead Stadium to take part in a multi-skills PE event.
• Friday 9 January 2026 Orange Class Soup Making Orange class had a lovely morning making seasonal soup for our Design Technology unit. We explored a range of chopping skills and our eyes were very sore after cutting all those onions!
• Friday 9 January 2026 Purple Class Live Tales Last half term Purple Class visited the Live Theatre in Newcastle to take part in a creative writing workshop. They worked alongside a writer, editor and illustrator to create their own unique story and character.
• Friday 9 January 2026 Year 3 - September 25- Design and Technology In design and technology, the children have been designing, making and evaluating a sandwich to meet a specific brief. They have enjoyed applying all of the skills they have learned, including: cutting, grating and slicing. Everyone agreed being able to taste it at the end was the best part!
• Friday 9 January 2026 Year 3- January 2026- PE In PE, this half term Jade Class are doing ‘outdoors and adventurous'. This week we have been working on our team work skills.
• Friday 9 January 2026 Year 3 -November 25- Stone Age to Iron Age Workshop Jade Class loved learning about the Stone Age to Iron Age. They had a special visitor who taught them all about how life changed during this time period. Ask them to tell you some of the facts they have learned.
• Wednesday 7 January 2026 Bronze class and the Tin Forest Our new text in Bronze class this half term is 'The Tin Forest' by Helen Ward. Before we even read the book we made some pictures of tin forests using our creative skills. We discussed whether we would like to live in a tin forest and what the positives and negatives would be of living in a forest made of metal!
• Wednesday 7 January 2026 Tasty Soup Making In December Purple class made some tasty soup dishes. We used a step-by-step method and seasonal ingredients to create their dish. The children took their soups home and rated them. We got some great reviews!
• Friday 19 December 2025 It’s Christmas…! The children in Blue, Pink and Bronze classes enjoyed a fantastic Christmas party! There was singing, dancing, party games, party food and the arrival of a very special visitor…
• Friday 19 December 2025 Reception's Autumn celebrations The children in Reception have been working incredibly hard this autumn term to achieve a range of awards, including 'Excellent Behaviour' certificates, Power of the Letter and our Bronze multiplication badges. The children also try to impress our class bears Rainbow Bear and Buddy Bear, with the hope that they will be chosen to take a bear home for the weekend.
• Friday 19 December 2025 Reception Christmas Stay and Play Reception staff would like to say a big thank you to all of the parents who attended our Christmas stay and play event. I know the children love to show you what they can do and all that they have learnt so far in their Reception journey.
• Tuesday 16 December 2025 Nursery Christmas Party! The children had lots of fun at our Christmas party! They enjoyed dancing together, playing games and eating party food. The most special surprise was a visit from Santa who brought everyone a gift for their excellent behaviour in Nursery!
• Tuesday 9 December 2025 Christmas Lunch 2025 Thank you to Mrs Atherton and her team for cooking a delicious festive meal for the children at Fell Dyke today. Also, a big thank you to all of the staff who made sure the feast ran smoothly. We all had full bellies and happy faces afterwards and it was a great way to start the festivities.
• Monday 8 December 2025 Nursery Christmas Stay and Play Our Nursery children had a wonderful day sharing their learning environment with their families! They completed different Christmas themed games and activities and sang some Christmas songs too!
• Wednesday 3 December 2025 Tiny Tweeties at Christmas Tiny Tweeties visited Reception this half term and taught us some brand new songs all about Winter and Christmas. We followed the actions, dance routines and played musical instruments in time to the music. One of the children even got to have a ride in Santa's sleigh. We always have so much fun with Rachael and Chris and look forward to seeing them again in Spring and Summer.
• Wednesday 3 December 2025 It's Christmas time... The children in Reception were given the very important job of decorating the school foyer tree. They worked hard together to spread out all of the branches and to use their fine motor skills to hang each bauble carefully. Our theme this year is red, gold and green and Reception have done a fantastic job. Check out our photos...
• Friday 28 November 2025 Afternoon Nursery Christmas with Tiny Tweeties The children had a great time getting into the Christmas Spirit with our friends from Tiny Tweeties this week. They sang, danced and play instruments along to different Christmas songs. Let the festivities begin!

• Wednesday 26 November 2025 Bronze class visit the Quayside As part of our geography learning this term, Bronze class visited Newcastle/Gateshead Quayside. We crossed over the Millennium Bridge to Newcastle and spotted all the bridges and buildings we had been learning about in the classroom.
• Tuesday 25 November 2025 Year 1/2 Visit to the Quayside The children in Pink and Blue class travelled to the Quayside. They used public transport and were fantastic all morning, showcasing just how fabulous the children at our school are. Members of the public commented on how excellently behaved they were when travelling on the bus.
• Monday 24 November 2025 Nursery- Super Snowday! The Nursery children loved exploring the outdoor area following last week's snow! They noticed different sounds and textures as they ran through the garden and made snowballs.
• Monday 24 November 2025 Nursery Pennies for Pudsey The children in Nursery had a wonderful time raising money for Children in Need.
• Monday 24 November 2025 Orange class - Live Tales Orange class had a wonderful trip to the Live Theatre on the Quayside. They took part in a creative writing workshop where they created an amazing story as a class and then finished it off independently. The editor was very impressed with their imagination and creativity!
• Monday 17 November 2025 Meet the Author The children in Years 1 and 2 were very excited to meet the author, Kate Rolfe, in school this week! Kate shared two of her books with us: Wolf and Bear and Wiggling Words and spoke to us about the process she went through to write them.  After sharing how her book, Wiggling Words, started with the illustrations made from letters, we had a go ourselves at creating our own illustrations from letters. We then had a Q & A session with Kate before she signed copies of her book for some of the children. What a treat!
• Monday 17 November 2025 Diwali 2025 in Reception The children in Reception learnt all about the festival of light Diwali - a Hindu celebration. They explored a range of rangoli patterns before making their own using coloured sand and glue. They read the story of Rama and Sita before re-enacting with puppets. We explored mehndi patterns and made our own after cutting out templates of hands plus a lot more fun and engaging activities.
• Monday 10 November 2025 Reception's trip to Hall Hill Farm Reception had a wonderful time visiting Hall Hill Farm. We were able to see and feed a range of animals - pigs, cows, llamas, alpacas, wallabies, sheep and goats to name just a few.
• Wednesday 5 November 2025 Super STEMFest Turquoise Class had a great time at STEMFest this year. We explored many job roles, which are local to us. We asked lots of questions and took part in many different activities.
• Wednesday 5 November 2025 Year 3 - November 2025 - Jade Class PE Jade Class have loved their first PE lesson this week. They are very excited to learn all about gymnastics and create some routines together. Have a look at some of their skills.
• Wednesday 5 November 2025 Spooky season in Reception The children in Reception have had a wonderful time exploring Halloween and Autumn in all of its glory.
• Friday 24 October 2025 Nursery's Spooky Fun! The children have had a great week with some spooky activities. They loved exploring the gloop and describing how it felt. They got very creative both indoors and outdoors and especially enjoyed making a Halloween treat to take home. Happy Half term everyone!
• Tuesday 21 October 2025 Reception's first trip into the Forest Reception had a very exciting afternoon exploring the natural world in our forest. We were on the hunt for autumn animals and their homes, observing the changes in the leaf colours both on the trees and on the forest floor and continuing to explore length and height - linked with our maths learning this week.
• Saturday 18 October 2025 Reception Bakery After reading the story 'The little red hen', Reception put on their baker hats and worked together to mix their own bread dough. Once the dough had proofed - it was rolled into individual bread buns and baked. The children then sat together for a whole group snack time to enjoy their creation. Some children opted to have butter on their bun, while others chose strawberry jam. Regardless of choice - there were many happy faces and full tummies.
• Saturday 18 October 2025 The start of Reception The children in Red and Rose class have settled in well to the routines of Reception. They have familiarised themselves with the classroom environments both inside and outside of the classroom and are engaging in their own learning through play.
• Monday 13 October 2025 Afternoon Nursery's Spooky Spell Animal Party! The children in our Afternoon Nursery had a fantastic time when a friendly Wizard and Witch visited us today! They told us a spooky story all about different animals and brought all the creatures along for us to see. The children showed great care and consideration when handling the animals and enjoyed learning new facts about them. They even got to see some magic tricks too! What an amazing time!

• Friday 10 October 2025 Nursery Hedgehog Bread Baking! Inspired by the story 'The Happy Hedgehog Band', the children in Nursery baked some hedgehog bread. They worked together to count out the ingredients and mix them. They observed how the dough changed as we added water and then kneaded it. They shaped the dough and practised using scissors to add the hedgehog spikes. The children loved seeing how the bread had further changed when it came out of the oven! It smelt delicious and they couldn't wait to eat it at snack time.
• Monday 6 October 2025 Movement and Music! The children in Nursery love expressing themselves during our music sessions. They have been developing their gross motor skills by dancing in different ways and working as a team to move and stretch the lycra. The children have been learning lots of songs about Autumn helping them to use new vocabulary. • Friday 3 October 2025 Year 1/2 - October 2025 - KS1 Multiskills Some of the children from Blue and Pink Class travelled to Gateshead Academy for Sport to represent our school at a KS1 sport event ran by the SSP. The event value was “self belief” and our children were enthusiastic and positive, encouraging each other throughout!
• Tuesday 30 September 2025 Awesome Autumn! The children in Nursery have begun to learn about seasonal changes. They read the story 'We're Going on a Leaf Hunt' and noticed how lots of the leaves in the text looked like those in our outdoor environment. They enjoyed finding Autumn leaves and using them in their creations!
• Thursday 25 September 2025 Year 1-2 - September - Blue Class Art The children in Blue Class have been practicing different skills in art. They have been creating different lines such as wavy, zig zag, looped, hatching and cross hatching. All of the children have been taking great care with their work when using their sketch books.
• Tuesday 23 September 2025 Parachute PE! The Nursery children in Yellow Class have loved starting their PE sessions in our school hall. They have worked hard listening to instructions and collaborating with their friends to move the parachute. The especially loved trying to bounce the teddy off the parachute. It really made us all giggle!
• Tuesday 23 September 2025 Super Start! The children have made a super start to their year in Nursery. They have been making new friends and learning how to work together. They have been trying to remember the new rules and routines and how to care for our learning environment.
• Tuesday 23 September 2025 Year 1/2 - September 2025 - Blue Class PE This half term, the children are developing agility and coordination skills to help them with a variety of different sports as they move through school like dance, gymnastics, netball and rugby.
• Tuesday 16 September 2025 Rock Legends What a great start to the academic year! Already children are demonstrating their commitment to learning their important multiplication tables facts!

• Sunday 7 September 2025 Bronze class Bronze class have settled in well and are getting to know all of the new routines of Year 2. We have been writing about our class teddy and warming our hands up for handwriting with Play-doh.
• Thursday 4 September 2025 Tag Rugby This week Purple class started our first PE lesson for tag rugby. All of the children took part in a game to test their skills. We practiced passing, moving and finding space. We worked really well in our teams, ensuring the ball was passed to different people before scoring.
• Thursday 4 September 2025 Year 1/2 - September - Counting The children in Pink and Blue class have had an excellent start to the week. They have been practicing their counting skills using Gattengo charts and 100 squares. The children have been able to count from 1 to 100, what super mathematicians they are!
• Friday 25 July 2025 Reception - baking up a storm Reception spent the last few weeks of the term exploring their inner chef by designing and making their very own Pizza and decorating cakes to sell at the Summer Fayre. All of this, while still learning through our play and imagination.
• Wednesday 23 July 2025 Reception's Pirate Party Extravaganza Reception have had a wonderful time learning all about pirates, the sea, maps, boats and sea creatures this half term.
• Wednesday 16 July 2025 Year 1/2 - July 2025 - Newcastle Castle The children in Pink and Blue class had a great visit to Newcastle Castle.
• Tuesday 8 July 2025 Peter Pan Well done to all of the children in year 5/6 for their SUPERB dress rehearsal of Peter Pan. The talent on display was amazing and it was lovely to see all of the team's work presented so confidently. Well done to all of the pupils and thank you to all of the staff who supported them to achieve this. I know the parents can't wait to see it.
• Thursday 3 July 2025 Reception's Trip to Tynemouth Aquarium Reception had a fantastic trip to Tynemouth Aquarium and to the beach. We learned all about different sea creatures and which creatures we might encounter in our local rock pools. We met a range of sea and land animals, including an axolotl, turtles, tortoises and monkeys.
• Wednesday 25 June 2025 Viking Visitor! Scarlet Class were very lucky to welcome a special Viking visitor into our school this week. He taught us lots about Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We completed an archeological dig and considered what the sources told us about the past from jewellery to weaponry. Mrs Wilson's favourite part of the day was taking part in The Witan - acting as advisors to the Anglo-Saxon Kings of England. We had to strongly voice our opinions and then make a final vote. Our votes tempted the fate of the Thralls, Churls and Thanes. Mrs Wilson was very impressed with our debate skills and reasoning. Plus, we seemed to have made great choices along the way to keep most people happy. A popular day for us was the battle formation and fighting skills practise. We learned how to be great soldiers - strong attackers and defenders. Finally, we ended the day playing tactics in some Anglo-Saxon games from the past. Mrs Wilson and Miss Binney were extremely impressed with our game play. Such clever minds!
• Wednesday 25 June 2025 If you go down to the woods today ... Scarlet's Trip to Kirkley Woodlands! Scarlet Class were very lucky to have the opportunity to visit Kirkley Hall Woodlands today to continue our work with the Royal Forestry Society. We were welcomed back by Jess and took a trip down into the woods. Firstly, we completed a trail, finding all of the reasons why trees are so important for us and our planet. We also got to see some cute woodland bears on the way! Then, we completed some tree identification. We had to problem solve using all of the characteristics of the trees and finding them in the forest. Next, we learned how to work out the age of trees. We got to put our maths skills to work and measured the circumference and divided by a number (depending on the tree). Finally, we were able to make some habitats for some forest friends we might find in the woodlands. All in all, a very busy and productive day in the woods today.
• Wednesday 25 June 2025 Nursery Sports Day 2025! Well done to all our morning and full-time nursery children who completed lots of different activities in our sports day event this morning! We were very proud of all their efforts and how well they all behaved. We hope you all enjoyed the session!
• Tuesday 24 June 2025 Drawing Club Mrs Wallace and Mrs Cook have loved running Drawing Club again this term! The children have thoroughly enjoyed the last eight weeks and have now built up an excellent portfolio of art work to take home and share today after our final session. We are sure you will be as impressed as we are!

• Thursday 19 June 2025 Super Seaside Songs! Afternoon Nursery had a wonderful session with Tiny Tweeties learning lots about the seaside and pirates. They sang, danced and played musical instruments, listening carefully and following new instructions!
• Thursday 19 June 2025 Amazing Art This week Purple class have been practicing their watercolour skills. We are currently working on being more precise with our brush strokes and forming intricate shapes. We developed our skills from last week , with colour, to look at how the shape of the brush can be used to form shapes.
• Tuesday 17 June 2025 Tiny Tweeties Summer Fun! The children in Morning Nursery had a fantastic session singing seaside and pirate themed songs with our friends from Tiny Tweeties. We especially loved being nibbled by the shark and popping the mermaids bubbles.
• Thursday 12 June 2025 Reception's Summer Term Tiny Tweeties visit Reception have had a wonderful introduction to the topic of 'Under the sea' with our friends from Tiny Tweeties. We spent the morning exploring songs linked to the ocean and pirates! We met a mermaid, a pinchy crab and a shark with very large teeth.
• Sunday 8 June 2025 Science Week - Blue and Pink - Axolotl Habitat The children in Blue and Pink class learned about what an axolotl is and where they can be found. They looked at their environment and how they are adapted to living life in the water.
• Friday 6 June 2025 Year 3 - June 25 - Science Week Jade Class have loved celebrating science week! They started the week off with an electricity workshop where they made circuits using buzzers and lightbulbs!
• Friday 6 June 2025 Bronze class Science week We have had a great week! Science week has been about 'Adapt and Change'. On Monday we had a special visitor and we joined in with lots of different experiments. We learned about gravity, the fire triangle, explosions and lots of other fun stuff. Today we have been doing our own experiment - the Skittle Experiment. We made a prediction, wrote what we needed for the experiment and then carried it out. Can you see what we did?
• Friday 6 June 2025 Dissolving Dilemma As part of Science Week, Purple class took part in an investigation into dissolving sugar. The investigation involved adding different amounts of sugar and then timing the rate at which it dissolved in water. They worked very well together and communicated respectfully. At the end of the experiment, they also thought about how they could keep more variables the same, to get more reliable results.
• Thursday 5 June 2025 Amazing Adaptations During Science week Turquoise class have learnt about 'changing and adapting'. Holding a science week is a brilliant way for us to get more science into the busy primary curriculum. We have looked at various animals and the adaptations they need to survive in their habitats. We then used Minecraft to search for axolotls and created their perfect habitat thinking about the adaptations they needed to be made. Finally, we took part in an electricity workshop where we looked at changes to circuits and how this can impact the output. Take a look at some of our pictures.
• Wednesday 4 June 2025 Saltwell Park Fun Run Year 6 had a lovely time at Saltwell Park taking part in the annual fun run. The children showed real resilience and really impressed all of the teachers. The children took on a 2km run around the park, which had some really steep hills. Well done! Once again, the children of Fell Dyke demonstrated excellent behaviour and were a real credit to themselves and the school.
• Tuesday 3 June 2025 Silly Science Reception were invited to a silly science workshop with KS1 to celebrate the official Science week. This year we are learning all about adapting and changing.
• Tuesday 3 June 2025 Reception Bikeabilty The children in Reception were visited by Mark from the bike ability team. He came to teach us safety when riding a bike and then how to ride safely and quickly. The children used the balance bikes on the yard to learn and then practise this new skill.
• Tuesday 3 June 2025 Run run as fast as you can! We have been reading a range of traditional tales in Reception. One of our favourite stories has been 'The Gingerbread Man'. After reading several times we re-told the story using talk for writing. We then spent two weeks carrying out a range of activities including building a bridge for the gingerbread man, creating new characters and a boat using junk materials and writing our own happy endings. At the end of the half term and our topic we decided to make our own ginger person. First the children measured out and mixed the ingredients we would need. Then we used our fingers to get the dough to stick together as it was very crumbly. After rolling out the dough we cut out the shapes and an adult put them into the oven. Once they were cooled we decorated them using iced pens. We sneakily ate our gingerbread men just like the fox in the story.
• Tuesday 20 May 2025 Purple Class Linking Project Purple class took part in an amazing opportunity as part of The Linking Network. We met up with Kenton Barr Primary school to take part in team building games and art projects. Throughout the day, the children bonded over mutual interests and worked very well together. It was amazing to see the children working collaboratively and getting on so well.
• Thursday 15 May 2025 Summer Fun! Nursery having been making the most of the warm weather and exploring some different activities outside. The children loved playing in our outdoor water trays and getting messy in our new sand pit! Summer fun wouldn't be complete without lots of bubble popping!!!
• Thursday 15 May 2025 Supertato to the Rescue! As part of our theme 'Ready...Steady...Grow!' the children in Nursery have been learning about different fruits and vegetables. They have especially enjoyed sharing the story of 'Supertato' and completing lots of activities linked to the book.
• Tuesday 13 May 2025 Identifying structures and making swings in Bronze class Our DT this half term in Bronze class is 'Structures'. We looked at different structures around our school grounds, the materials they were made from and the different shapes we could see. The, in the classroom, we had a go at making our own swing structures using straws and tape. It was quite tricky and we needed lots of perseverance and determination, but we did very well!
• Tuesday 13 May 2025 2D and 3D Shapes in Bronze class Bronze class have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes. We have been sorting 2D shapes using different criteria and identifying polygons. We have talked about the number of vertices and sides on 2D shapes. We then used our 3D shapes to draw around and see what 2D shapes the faces were. We have also made some 3D shapes using nets and different equipment, identifying the vertices, edges and faces in each.
• Friday 9 May 2025 Year 1/2 - VE Day
• Friday 2 May 2025 Stop, Look, Listen and Think! Nursery have been learning how to stay safe when crossing the road. The children had a special visit from Sara who reminded us to stop, look, listen and think each time we approach a road. They learnt how a lollypop person can help us stay safe and how to stand back if we hear any sirens. The children all remembered how important it is to hold a grown-ups hand and walk on the path!
• Wednesday 30 April 2025 Super Science Turquoise class have been working hard in science. They enjoyed carrying out a demonstration where they created a mixture and then videoed the process of separating the mixture. The children used a range of steps including sieving, filtering, magnetisation and using forceps to remove items.
• Tuesday 29 April 2025 Gold Class Investigate Forces Gold Class have been learning about different forces. They carried out an investigation to find out which materials were magnetic. They were surprised to discover that not all metals are magnetic which lead to some interesting discussions and fact finding.
• Tuesday 29 April 2025 Gold Class Are Times Tables Champions! Gold Class took part in the first ever ‘Battle of the Classes’ on Times Tables Rock Stars. They had to answer as many times tables questions as they could in 60 minutes. The answered an amazing 25, 810 questions correctly! They received the TTRs trophy which is displayed proudly in their classroom.
• Tuesday 29 April 2025 Scrumptious Scones As part of Orange Class's DT unit - food, the children tasted a selection of different fruit scones and toasted tea cakes. We did this to allow us to know the different dried fruits we could put into our scones and how they actually taste. We gave everything we tasted a score out of 5. What a delicious afternoon.
• Tuesday 22 April 2025 Reception's Easter Stay and Play The Reception children had such a wonderful time with their grown-ups at our Easter Stay and Play. The children were confident in showing their adults all of the different skills and knowledge they have been developing this term, from cutting and creating with chalk to reading hidden words and composing with number up to 10! Safe to say, the adults were very impressed.

• Wednesday 9 April 2025 Bronze class visit to Shipley Art Gallery On Tuesday, Bronze class visited our local gallery, Shipley Art Gallery, to take part in a workshop using clay. We investigated different kinds of pottery and used our Science knowledge to help us describe the properties of the material. We then looked around the gallery for inspiration for our own pieces of work, drawing pictures of what we liked. Then we created our own bowls using clay and added patterns based on what had inspired us. It was fantastic!

• Monday 7 April 2025 Easter Stay and Play! Nursery had a wonderful with their special grown-ups today at our Easter Stay and Play. They enjoyed completing Easter crafts and playing in the environment with their parents and carers. We hope you all had a wonderful time and enjoy the Easter break!
• Friday 4 April 2025 Key Stage 1 Number Day For number day the children in KS1 took part in a number hunt around school. They found each number block and answered different questions depending on their class.
• Friday 4 April 2025 Repeating Patterns During Maths group times, the children in Nursery have been learning all about repeating patterns. They have spotted patterns in their environment and copied patterns using different resources. The children then replicated patterns in their own play! Super work Nursery!
• Monday 31 March 2025 Year 3 Jade Class- March 2025- PE Jade Class have loved playing rounders in PE. They improved their fielding and batting skills throughout the unit and were able to explain the rules of rounders.
• Thursday 27 March 2025 Fell Dyke Shine at the Glasshouse. Miss Brown, Mrs Wilson and My Strassheim are so proud of our Tuesday dance club. The children have worked so hard over the Spring Term learning a routine centered around respecting themselves. The children showed determination and resilience throughout and shone like stars on the stage. The children's team spirt and encouragement was unmatched. So much so that it was commented on by staff at The Glasshouse. We are always so proud of our children at Fell Dyke but the team spirt and love for all, that we saw, was incredible.
• Thursday 27 March 2025 Fantastic Fencing Purple Class have had an amazing opportunity to take part in fencing lessons this half term with Gateshead SSP. All of the children have have been taught how to fence using the correct vocabulary and actions. They have practiced their salute for respect, the lunge and parry so far this half term. The children have all demonstrated excellent respect during our matches, which has been commented on by the coaches.
• Thursday 27 March 2025 Singing into Spring! Nursery had a wonderful visit from our friends at Tiny Tweeties. They sang songs linked to minibeasts and springtime. The children loved singing, dancing and playing the instruments all whilst learning about life cycles, practising their counting skills and developing new vocabulary.
• Wednesday 26 March 2025 Where Going on a Number Hunt! To celebrate Number Day, the children in Nursery took part in a number hunt around school. They searched for pictures of all the Cbeebies Numberblocks and completed a challenge left at each place they found one! After finding all ten Numberblock friends the hunt was completed! Well done Nursery!
• Wednesday 26 March 2025 Animal encounters This half term the children in Reception have experienced a very special animal encounter. We had 10 eggs delivered which we cared for in the incubator until they were ready to hatch. Throughout last week we hatched all 10 eggs and are lucky enough to be caring for 5 girls and 5 boys. The children have taken great care of the chicks making sure they are well fed, watered, warm and have had lots of space to run around. The children had a large paddling pool to observe the chicks from a far. As the chicks got a little bigger and we were sure we knew how to handle them we managed to have a little cuddle before they go off to their new homes outside. We discussed with the children the lifecycle of a hen and how normally the hen would sit on the eggs. They have loved learning all about this fascinating life cycle and understand how a hen hatches her chicks.
• Saturday 22 March 2025 Scarlet Class Win the Cup! Well done to everyone in Scarlet Class - we have won the prestigious attendance trophy! 100% attendance for week 1 in Spring 2 term.
• Saturday 22 March 2025 Y3/4 - March 2025 - Scarlet Red Nose Day! Well done to all the children in Scarlet Class for their efforts to support Comic Relief charity. The children did a great job of wearing red for Red Nose Day and their money and cake donations have gone to a great cause.
• Friday 21 March 2025 Chick, Chick, Chickens! Nursery made a trip to the big school today to see some special visitors....ten newly hatched chicks! The children used their gentle hands to stroke and hold the chicks. They noticed they felt soft and commented on the sounds they made. They are looking forward to another visit to observe how the chicks will grow and change.
• Friday 21 March 2025 Times Tables Workshops Thank you to all of the parents and carers who attended the times tables workshops this week. It was great to see so many parents and the workshops were a huge success!
• Thursday 20 March 2025 Save the Children Les, a fundraiser for Save the Children, came to speak to the children in KS1 about his role and some of the work the charity does to help children in developing countries. Les showed us ‘Plumpy Nut’, a high nutrient peanut paste which is used to treat malnutrition. He showed us how one pack of Plumpy Nut was around the same size, shape and price of a KitKat - yet it could save a child’s life.
• Thursday 20 March 2025 Ukulele Lessons This half term we have been having ukulele lesson from Miss Christie. We have been learning some amazing songs and some chords. We have also been learning to play along some traditional songs using the chords C and Am. Hopefully one day you might be able to hear us perform!
• Monday 17 March 2025 Story Raid! We were delighted to welcome Dominic Kelly and two of his fellow story tellers to Fell Dyke today for a 'Story Raid'.
• Friday 14 March 2025 Lovely Ladybirds! As part of their learning on minibeasts, the children in Nursery read the story of 'The Very Lazy Ladybird'. They enjoyed creating their own Lazy Ladybirds by decorating biscuits. They carefully counted out ingredients for the icing sugar and observed how it changed. They were challenged to use their counting skills further by finding the correct number of eyes and chocolate spots! The children enjoyed eating their biscuits as a reward for all their super maths work!
• Wednesday 12 March 2025 Revealing our World Book Day doors... As part of our World Book Day celebrations, each class was tasked with working with their teachers to decorate their classroom door based on a story the children enjoy.
• Tuesday 11 March 2025 Scarlet Class Tree Planting Today, the children in Scarlet Class were very lucky to take part in tree planting with Jess from the Royal Forestry Society.
• Monday 10 March 2025 Shrove Tuesday in Reception The children celebrated pancake day in Reception by mixing their own batter and making pancakes. We read the story of Mr Wolf's pancakes before deciding to make our own. We followed the recipe, weighed out the ingredients and then Ms Lawrie cooked them for us. We got to choose which topping we wanted on our pancake and the choices were delicious. The choices were... golden syrup, lemon juice or chocolate sauce! I bet you can all guess which topping went down the best. Of course it was the chocolate! After seeing our photos you will definitely be asking the Reception children to make your pancakes in the future.
• Saturday 8 March 2025 Purple Class Visit MakerSpace at Gateshead Library Gateshead Library is full of fantastic resources, including lots of advanced tech kit such as 3D printers, laser cutters and heat transfer printing.
• Friday 7 March 2025 World book Day Bronze class We had a fantastic World Book Day in Bronze class. We all dressed up in some fantastic costumes and then helped to create pictures for our classroom door that we are making into the 'Enormous Crocodile'. We sorted books into fiction and non-fiction and found out some interesting facts about crocodiles. Did you know that some male saltwater crocodiles can grow to be 7 metres long?!

• Thursday 6 March 2025 Nursery Celebrate World Book Day! Nursery looked fantastic in all their character costumes today. The children enjoying spending extra time listening to stories especially those that their friends had brought in to share.
• Thursday 6 March 2025 Perfect Pancakes! Nursery had a wonderful time returning to school on Pancake Day! They enjoyed listening to the story 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' before engaging in activities linked to the text . Of course their favourite task was eating the pancakes! Yum, yum!
• Thursday 6 March 2025 Reception's visit from 'The Bug Man' To kick start our new half term learning about mini beasts and life cycles, the children were visited by Guy Tansley also known as 'The Bug Man'. During his visit the children were introduced to a range of 'Megabeasts' some mini and some not so. We learnt about the habitats of the creatures that were brought, what they like to eat and where in the world they live. Some of the animals included... stick insects, tarantulas, snakes, cockroaches, a scorpion, leaf insects and many more.
• Wednesday 5 March 2025 Scarlet Class - Passover Seder Scarlet Class have really enjoyed exploring Judaism this half term. We love demonstrating our Fell Dyke value 'Equality' and learning about the similarities and differences between ourselves and people around the world.
• Friday 21 February 2025 Tree Planting Purple Class took part in a tree planting activity facilitated by the Royal Forestry Society. They had an amazing time and worked together in small groups to achieve their task. We planted over 40 trees in under an hour, showing an amazing team spirit!
• Friday 21 February 2025 DT Making Fruit Salad Bronze class practiced their cutting, chopping and grating skills to make a fruit salad for Ms Savage.
• Friday 14 February 2025 Love is in the air... Nursery have had a wonderful week exploring Valentines themed learning opportunities and thinking about special people. All our Nursery children are special to the staff here at Fell Dyke and we are super proud of how they have collaborated with their friends during our activities this week!
• Friday 14 February 2025 Purple Class History Purple Class looked at primary sources from Ancient Egypt. First, they thought about what they could see in the source through describing its features. Then, the thought about what it might show about the role of slaves or the Pharaoh in society. Finally, we compared the sources to think about how the lives of these two groups were different.
• Friday 14 February 2025 Purple Class Laing Art Gallery Visit This week Purple Class had an amazing opportunity to take part in an art workshop at the Laing Art Gallery. After walking around the gallery for inspiration, they created their own designs using foam and printed them onto card. They also enjoyed looking around Newcastle City center and using the Metro.
• Monday 10 February 2025 Turquoise's trip to The Laing. The children in Turquoise Class took a trip to Newcastle to visited the Laing Art Gallery. We used public transport, which was great to get us prepared for secondary school. We took the 56 bus from school to Market Street in Newcastle. Once we arrived we walked to the Laing, where we took part in a Printmaking workshop then had our lunch. We finished with a very wet walk through Newcastle stopping outside the library before walking up to Haymarket Metro. We took the Metro from Haymarket to Gateshead and then took the 56 back to school! What a fantastic day!
• Friday 7 February 2025 NSPCC Number Day Thank you to all the parents, staff and children for their amazing effort today to make our first Number Day a huge success! The children looked fabulous ‘dressed up for digits’ and the donations made will help to fund the vital work of the NSPCC.
• Friday 7 February 2025 Nursery Number Day! Nursery had lots of fun celebrating NSPCC's 'Dress Up For Digit's Day'. They took part in lots of number related activities, developing their counting skills and recognition of numerals.
• Thursday 6 February 2025 Brilliant Books Nursery enjoyed a visit from our local librarian this week. Joanne shared some of her favourite books before leaving a wonderful surprise. A pack of books for all the children to take home and enjoy!
• Thursday 6 February 2025 Red Class Library Trip The children in Red Class thoroughly enjoyed their local trip to Wrekenton library. After visiting the school library each week it was a special treat for us to get on our walking shoes and head just around the corner. Once we arrived, Joanne greeted us and showed us around. We listened to some of Joanne's favourite stories before exploring the books ourselves. Each child chose and scanned out a book to bring back to class. Each of the children's choices will be used on the class voting station so everyone's choices can be shared. We are hoping to visit the library again soon to explore more of our favourite stories and books.
• Thursday 6 February 2025 Year 1/2 - February - shapes The children in Blue class have started their learning on shape. They have placed shapes over the top of other shapes, created tangram pictures and mirrored pictures with a partner. They have been trying really hard to use their new vocabulary word “rotate” when creating their shape pictures.
• Tuesday 4 February 2025 Laing Art Gallery Orange The children in Orange Class visited the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle. For this visit, the children used public transport. • Monday 3 February 2025 Chinese New Year in Reception Lunar New Year celebrations are underway in Reception. This year we are celebrating the year of the snake. The children listened to the folk story and ordered the animals who placed in the race. We then took part in many activities to develop both our skills and our knowledge of Chinese new year traditions. We made "Hong bao" which are lucky money wallets, Chinese lanterns, fire breathing dragons and fans. On Friday we had a special treat and we discussed and used the words salty, crunchy, hard, soft, hot and cold to describe some foods that we ate. These included egg noodles, egg friend rice, crispy seaweed, fortune cookies, prawn crackers and curry sauce.
• Thursday 30 January 2025 Rose Class - Local Library Trip Rose class children were lucky enough to go on a trip to our local library in Wrekenton ahead of National Story telling Week on 3rd February 2025. We walked from school to the the library, looking at and talking about our local environment and familiar buildings as we passed them.
• Tuesday 28 January 2025 Amazing Animals! This half term the Nursery children have been learning all about different animals. They have explored lots of activities linked to farm and jungle animals. They have been trying hard to recognise, name and describe animals. They are beginning to think about where animals live and how we can take care of those in our environment.
• Tuesday 28 January 2025 Luna New Year! Nursery have had a wonderful time learning about the Luna New Year this week! They especially enjoyed a visit from our friend Joy who shared the story of 'The Great Race'.
• Friday 24 January 2025 Year 1/2 - January - Year 2 maths We have been finding ways to help us remember greater than, less than and equal to in maths this week.
• Friday 24 January 2025 Y1/2 Fruit Tasting The children in Pink and Blue classes enjoyed tasting different seasonal fruits in DT. They tried green apples, red apples, plums, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and pears. They talked about the texture and taste of the fruit, including the skin, deciding whether they were soft, crunchy, sweet or sharp.
• Monday 20 January 2025 Computing in Bronze class This half term Year 2 are learning about algorithms in Computing. This week we have been giving commands to the Blue-Bots to move them in a straight line and turn left and right.
• Tuesday 14 January 2025 Year 3 - January- Maths Jade Class have enjoyed using counters to represent arrays. They have been writing repeated addition number sentences and multiplication number sentences to match the arrays.
